Dr John Demartini and The Gratitude Effect
On Tuesday night I had the chance to hear Dr Demartini speak for the second time, in support of his latest book titled ‘The Gratitude Effect’.
Of the many things he talked about, one of the key things was the idea of understanding the duality and balance that occurs in everything.
Everything is balanced
True gratitude comes from this understanding where you can appreciate negative as well as positive events, as it’s only our perspective that makes it seem as such.
There is good inside of every bad event and bad inside of every good. It’s always balanced though you may not initially be able to see it.
To not see both sides is when you allow yourself to feel infatuation or resentment, which are both imbalanced perspectives.
Reflections of people
Another interesting point is how you perceive other people, as what you see in others is a reflection of yourself.
If you know someone who is caring and generous, to the same level you have that trait somewhere.
Likewise if you know someone who is selfish and cruel, you also have that trait to the same degree somewhere.
Challenge and support
Challenge helps you grow in nature, support shields you from growth.
If you always surround yourself with things that support you and your beliefs, you can never reach your full potential. Challenge is required to expand you, to make you think and to grow you as a person.
Yin and yang
There can be no happiness without sadness.
Kindness and cruelty. Giving and taking. Life and death. Growth and decay. Confidence and fear. Light and dark. Charity and selfishness. Relaxation and tension. Joy and anger. Fulfilment and emptiness. Co-operation and competition.
Everything is always balanced and true gratitude is when you can be thankful for all the things that support and challenge you, when you can find the benefit in the drawback and vice versa.

What Type Of Musician Are You?
I was chatting to a young musician woman the other day at a bar explaining my philosophy on musician types. If you are a muso, what type are you?
Performer vs Creator
Imagine a scale with the performer on one end and the creator at the other. You might be one or the other or some shade in between.
The performer loves to perform, doesn’t matter whether it’s his/her music or someone elses. They love to be the center of attention and their fulfillment comes from performing for people to entertain them. Kind of like an actor/actress. Think of American Idol contestants and covers musicians.
The creator loves to write music. His/her fulfillment comes from the creative process, solving the riddle that each song provides, and the satisfaction from completing and then sharing their art with others. Kind of like a screenwriter. Think of any originals artist/band you know.
It’s interesting to think that the performer is motivated by external elements and the creator is motivated by internal elements.
Initiator vs Bouncer
You can then split creative musicians into an initiators and bouncers.
Initiators are the musicans who come up with no ideas all the time but sometimes struggle to follow through and complete a song. They provide the spark but not necessarily the fuel.
The bouncer can take an initiator’s idea, add to it, change it or help take an idea in a direction that can help complete a song. Bouncers may not be the best at coming up with the initial idea but they can certainly run with something once they are shown that idea.
Leaders vs Followers
Within a band situation, the leaders will be more outspoken and tend to drive the band with their ideas or plans. The followers are more carefree and happy to go along with whatever is decided upon by the rest of the group.
What type are you?
Have you figured this out yet? The reason is once you do, and you know what your band mates are, then you’ll start to understand the dynamic that exists within your band.
Each member can then fit into and perform a role that matches their type.
No more getting annoyed at that lazy band member when really, they want to contribute, it’s just a matter of figuring out the best way how for them to do so.

Stephen has written this book in a very conversational and easy to read manner, so that even if you have no experience in running a business, you’ll still be able to follow along with the principles he outlines.
It’s definitely NOT one of those business books full of technical and confusing jargon.
It’s interesting to find out from his introduction that Stephen came from a background of being homeless at one point, with no formal education, and that he applied his seven critical steps to help him and his family build several multi-million dollar businesses today.
The book has plenty of useful ‘how to’ information titbits and Stephen shares plenty of personal experiences to tie them together.
His micro-niche concept is a useful tip that can help you focus your market research or potential product creation efforts. He also shares with you key search terms you can use in search engines to uncover markets where a problem exists that you could create a product to solve and profit from.
Stephen stresses that above anything else, the ability to generate traffic is absolutely critical to making real money on the internet. He provides suggestions on generating lots of free traffic through Myspace, Youtube and blogs. Some of the other traffic strategies he touches on are e-zine and banner advertising, the use of articles and affiliates to drive traffic.
The only negative thing I have to say about this book is that after reading certain sections, you wish Stephen could have gone into deeper detail on the various steps that he discusses.
Aside from that, “Make Real Money On The Internet” is an informative and concise read, outlining the proven system Stephen Pierce uses to make money from the internet in seven straight forward and easy to follow steps.
