Your things can be taken from you under ‘suspicion of involvement’ in illegal activity, you don’t even have to be charged.
It’s called Civil Forfeiture where there is a dispute between law enforcement and property suspected of being involved in a crime. The property, not the person, is in question.
That property can be seized and the onus is then on the owner to prove it wasn’t involved in criminal activity.
